The State Fire Marshal's Office adopts the 2023 NEC as the statewide minimum, effective April 17, 2025; local jurisdictions may enforce their own editions.
The AHJ decides. Always verify locally
State adoption sets the baseline, not the final word. Cities and counties can layer amendments on top of the state code, run behind or ahead of the state's edition, or, in local-adoption states, enforce a different edition entirely. The enforceable code for any project is whatever the authority having jurisdiction issuing the permit says it is. Confirm the edition and local amendments with the AHJ before design or bid. Adoption status also changes on state rulemaking cycles; this page reflects reconciled adoption-tracker data as of July 6, 2026.
